Jerry Cheynet

Notable: All-time winningest coach in wrestling and men’s soccer program history
Across a five-decade career of service to Virginia Tech Athletics, Cheynet left an enduring legacy on the Athletics Department in various roles throughout his tenure. Cheynet was the head coach of four different programs on campus; wrestling, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s golf, including leading three at the same time from 1980 to 1983.
As the men’s soccer head coach from 1974 to 2001, he took over a program in its third year of existence. In 1997 he was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year when he led the Hokies to a 14-5-1 record as the Hokies achieved a national ranking for the first time.
Cheynet also guided the wrestling program from 1974-1996 where he earned Coach of the Year accolades in 1993 after steering the Hokies to the CAA tournament title.
From 1980 to 1983, he led the men’s golf team, and he also assumed the role of women’s soccer coach for the 2002 season.
After his coaching career concluded, Cheynet worked in the facilities department from 2003 to 2025 where he could be seen on Olympic sport game days assisting in field preparation as well as supporting visiting team operations and escorting officials.
Chris Martin
Sport: Wrestling
Years at VT: 1996-2001
Notable: Graduated as program’s leader in wins and winning percentage
A fourth-place finisher in 2000 at the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds, Martin became just the third wrestler in program history to achieve All-American status. That season he was an Eastern Wrestling League champion as well. Martin concluded his Virginia Tech career with a record of 126-25.
At the conclusion of his collegiate career, Martin held the school record for overall wins, dual meet wins and career winning percentage. He still ranks tied for third in overall wins (126) and tied for seventh in dual meet victories (58). He also remains sixth in career winning percentage at .824. His 25 pins rank sixth all time.
Along with Coach Cheynet, the duo becomes the eleventh and twelfth men associated with the wrestling program to be inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.
Kylie McGoldrick
Sport: Softball
Years at VT: 2012-2015
Notable: Three-time All-ACC Team member
A four-year starter at second base, McGoldrick was the heartbeat of the softball program that went to NCAA Regionals each season throughout her time on campus. She played in 230 games and started in all but one, in a career that included three All-Conference selections including a first team nod in 2013 and three ACC All-Tournament Team accolades.
McGoldrick was named the team MVP in 2015.
For her career, she posted a .318 batting average with 44 doubles, four triples, 30 home runs, and 213 total hits. She also scored 139 runs with 128 RBIs.
She owns several top ten marks in program history including; doubles, walks, runs scored, on base percentage and assists.
McGoldrick was a four-time All-State selection by VaSID, a two-time NFCA All-Region player and made the ACC’s All-Academic Team all four years in Blacksburg.
Yavgeniy Olhovsky
Sport: Men’s Track & Field
Years at VT: 2007-2010
Notable: Two-time national runner up in the pole vault
Olhovsky stands as the joint leader in program history in men’s track and field All-American honors boasting seven. He won silver medals in the pole vault at the NCAA Championship, finishing second at both the 2008 NCAA outdoor meet and the 2009 NCAA indoor meet.
At the conference meets, he was crowned the ACC champion three times, 2009 and 2010 at the ACC Outdoor Championships and in 2009 at the league’s indoor meet.
Upon his graduation, he owned the Tech indoor record in the pole vault (18 feet, 2.5 inches) and held that mark for seven years. His mark still ranks fourth on Tech’s all-time list in the indoor pole vault with a best of 18 feet, 2.5 inches and his best outdoor mark, 18 feet, 0.5 inches also ranks in the current top 10.
Martina Schultze
Sport: Women’s Track & Field
Years at VT: 2012-2014
Notable: Five-time ACC champion in pole vault
Schultze dominated the ACC pole vault scene during her time at Tech, winning five of her six opportunities at the conference championship events. She took home first place in 2014 indoor and outdoor, 2013 indoor and outdoor 2012 outdoor in the pole vault.
She concluded her collegiate career as a six-time All-American in the pole vault, earning the honor at least one time in every season she competed for the Hokies. Her best national finish came at the 2014 outdoor NCAA championships where she was third.
Logan Thomas
Sport: Football
Years at VT: 2009-2013
Notable: Virginia Tech’s all-time leader in total offense
One of the most recognizable Tech athletes in recent history, Thomas, a 6-foot-6 quarterback rewrote the record book in his four seasons on the gridiron.
He still holds the records for consecutive starts by a quarterback (40), total offense (10,362 yards), career passing touchdowns (53), career passing yards (9,003) and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (24).
In 2011 Thomas started all 14 games with 3,013 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, along with 469 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns as he led the Hokies to 11 wins, the ACC Championship game and the Sugar Bowl. For his efforts, he was named to the ACC’s Second Team.
During the 2012 season, Thomas threw for 2,976 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also rushed for 528 yards and nine touchdowns. As a senior in 2013, he passed for 2,907 yards with 16 touchdowns.
Thomas was drafted in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He played eight seasons with the Cardinals, Bills, Lions and Commanders. Thomas converted from quarterback to tight end halfway through his NFL career. His NFL that included 94 games, where he recorded 219 receptions for 2,002 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Murielle Tiernan
Sport: Women’s Soccer
Years at VT: 2013-2016
Notable: Program’s all-time leader in goals and points
A stalwart center forward, Tiernan’s name is etched all throughout the Virginia Tech women’s soccer record books from her time in maroon and orange.
In each of her first three seasons on campus the Hokies reached the NCAA tournament, including a College Cup run in 2013 and third round appearance in 2014. She led the Hokies in both goals and points all four years and still holds career marks in several statistical categories. Tiernan ranks first in points (112), goals (49), game-winning goals (23), multi-goal games (9), fifth in games started (83), and ninth in assists (14).
She owns a long list of accolades that includes being named to the ACC’s All-Freshman Team in 2013 and being listed on the conference’s First Team from 2014 to 2016. Tiernan was also recognized as an all-state player four times, an all-region player three times and was an NSCAA All-American Third Team member in 2015. She was also featured as espnW’s Player of the Week during her junior season.
