ARLINGTON, Texas – After making its debut at the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field (Arlington, Texas), the Virginia Tech baseball team has accepted its invitation from REV Entertainment to be part of the inaugural four-team field slated to compete during the event’s 2027 expansion at First Horizon Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
From March 5 to March 7 – the third weekend of the 2027 regular season – the Hokies will contest one game apiece against Cincinnati, Ohio State and Vanderbilt. Game times and matchups, as well as broadcast information, will be disseminated at a later date.
Virginia Tech will be making its debut appearance at First Horizon Park, home of the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers). Opened in 2015, the 10,000-capacity ballpark is one of five locations accommodating seven tournaments within the framework of 2027 College Baseball Series, which continues to feature the sport’s most premier preseason non-conference action.
“We are really excited about playing in the 2027 Nashville College Baseball Series during the third week of the season,” said Virginia Tech head coach John Szefc. “The field with us, Cincinnati, Ohio State and Vanderbilt seems very competitive.
“We are really looking forward to challenging our guys, getting them away from home and getting them into a good baseball environment, much like was the case for us in Arlington [Texas] last year. So, we look forward to the challenge. We appreciate this invitation from REV Entertainment. We will be ready to go and well prepared.”
Virginia Tech will renew its 53-game series history with Cincinnati, of which the majority took place during the programs’ 13-year crossover in the Metro Conference from 1979 to 1991. During their most recent meetings in 2014, the Hokies swept a pair of head-to-head games against the Bearcats at English Field to control the 39-14 all-time advantage.
Historically, Virginia Tech will restore play against Ohio State for the first time since 1956 and against Vanderbilt for the first time since 1978 – the latter of which occurred during the Hokies’ most recent trip to Nashville (a seven-game tournament hosted by Lipscomb). Together, the Buckeyes (1966) and the Commodores (2014, 2019) carry the four-team field’s three national championships.
“As the College Baseball Series continues to grow nationwide, bringing a tournament to Nashville is an exciting milestone for our organization,” said Jared Schrom, senior vice president of REV Entertainment. “Nashville is one of the country’s great sports and entertainment destinations and First Horizon Park provides a tremendous setting for college baseball.
“We look forward to partnering with the Nashville Sounds to create a first-class experience for student-athletes, fans and the local community.”
Virginia Tech received a metric boost from its three games at the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, heading into the 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship ranked No. 17 nationally in strength of schedule. All three of the Hokies’ opponents in the 2027 College Baseball Series finished the 2026 season ranked inside the top 100 of the NCAA Division I Baseball RPI (Cincinnati – No. 22, Vanderbilt – No. 72, Ohio State – No. 87).
Cincinnati joined Virginia Tech in the 2026 NCAA tournament field, earning the No. 2 seed in the Starkville Regional (hosted by No. 14 Mississippi State). Vanderbilt – one season removed from its No. 1 national seed crowned in 2025 – witnessed its streak of advancing to 19 consecutive tournaments end in 2026.
“The Nashville Sounds are proud to partner with REV Entertainment to bring an elite college baseball tournament to Nashville,” said Adam English, general manager and chief operating officer of the Nashville Sounds. “Baseball fans from across the region will have the opportunity to see outstanding programs compete in one of the country’s premier minor league ballparks.”
