BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team is set to take on West Virginia for each of the next three seasons, the programs announced Thursday afternoon. The first meeting in 2026 will take place in Morgantown on Saturday, Dec. 5, while the Mountaineers will travel to Blacksburg in 2027 and the programs will meet in Charleston, West Virginia sometime in 2028.
Separated by just 250 miles, the two programs have not met since December of 2015. Across 79 all-time meetings, the Hokies are 30-49 which includes a 5-21 record in conference games in both the Southern Conference and the BIG EAST.
West Virginia went 21-14 last season that included a 9-9 mark in Big 12 games. The Mountaineers competed in the College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas where they won three games against Stanford, Creighton and Oklahoma.
Tip time and television designation for the Dec. 5 contest at Hope Coliseum will be announced later.
