Carrico named NFCA Top 10 Freshman of the Year Finalist

The ACC Freshman of the Year leads the league with a 1.72 ERA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ­– Bree Carrico has been named a NFCA Top 10 Freshman of the Year Finalist.

The redshirt-freshman has been lights out for the No. 13/16 Hokies all season long. Her 1.72 ERA leads the ACC and ranks 17th nationally. On the season, she has 101.2 innings pitched with 117 strikeouts while allowing just 25 earned runs in a team-high 30 appearances. She is 13-1 with a team-high five saves.

The Appomattox, Va., native garnered NFCA Freshman of the Week and ACC Player of the Week honors after an unstoppable week against Longwood and NC State. Posting a 0.00 ERA over 11.0 innings pitched, Carrico threw 16 strikeouts and held both the Lancers and the Wolfpack to a .029 average.

She has thrown a career-high 10 strikeouts twice this season.

Carrico was named the ACC Freshman of the Year on May 5 after a dominant ACC slate. She posted a 1.93 conference ERA that ranked third among pitchers. At 6-1 against ACC opponents, Carrico had 49 strikeouts in 50.2 innings of work while only allowing 14 earned runs.

Carrico is the first NFCA Top 10 Freshman of the Year Finalist for the Hokies since Emma Lemley in 2023.
