Virginia Tech has formed the search committee tasked with recruiting the next vice president and director of athletics.

Reporting to the president, the vice president and director of athletics works closely with university leadership to set and communicate a bold, forward-looking vision for Virginia Tech Athletics that positions the program for sustained relevance, competitiveness, and financial growth. This person will serve as the primary liaison to the university president, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors, and senior administration to ensure athletics strategy is tightly integrated with the broader university mission.

The new vice president and director of athletics will fill the position left by Whit Babcock, who recently announced that he will transition from his role as the director of athletics, effective June 30.

Lynne Doughtie ’85, retired chairperson and CEO of KPMG LLP, will chair the search committee, whose members are:

  • Mario Ferruzzi, dean, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
  • James Franklin, head football coach
  • Jen Irish, Charles P. Lunsford Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, College of Engineering, and faculty athletics representative

  • J. Pearson ’87, member of the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors
  • Mehul Sanghani ’98, member of the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors

The search committee will be supported by Lisa Wilkes, vice president for strategic initiatives and special assistant to the president. The firm Parker Executive Search will aid in the national search. The search is expected to be completed this summer.
