Hokie ClubMADISON, Wis. – Hokies’ Drew Fishback wins UTR Pro Summer Slam at Madison, with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the final round.
The win qualifies the rising sophomore for the UTR Pro Summer Slam Championship in Tallahassee, Fla., Aug. 11-15.
In the semifinal round, Fishback came out with a two-tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4), win over Western Michigan University’s Oscar Corwin.
Fishback took a 6-1, 6-4 victory Saturday morning over North Alabama's Alberto Altur Fernandez to win the tournament. This marked Fishback's second win over a North Alabama opponent in the month of May, having helped the Hokies overcome the Lions in their NIT Championship win on May 8.
In his freshman campaign, Fishback garnered a 12-13 singles and 17-16 doubles record, ending with a 6-4, 6-3 singles victory in the Hokies' 4-2 win over North Alabama.
