BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men’s basketball head coach Mike Young announced Monday that forward Amani Hansberry will be returning to the squad for his senior season in 2026-27.
In his first season with the Hokies, Hansberry made an immediate impact for the squad, starting in all 30 of his appearances in maroon and orange. The team’s leading scorer, he averaged 14.3 points per game with an efficient 49.2% field goal percentage. The 6-foot-8 Hansberry recorded four games of 20 or more points this season with his season-high (22) coming in the Hokies’ ACC/SEC Challenge overtime win at South Carolina. His 7.4 rebounds per game rank tenth in the conference and the Silver Spring, Maryland native’s eight double-doubles rank fourth amongst ACC athletes.
Early in the season, he had a streak of four consecutive double-doubles which were the most for a Hokie since 2011. He became the first Hokie to record a double-double in his first three ACC contests when he did so against Virginia, Wake Forest and Stanford consecutively.
He was recognized by the NABC as a first team All-East Region player during the postseason and was also earned All-ACC Honorable Mention accolades.
