Tech battles but falls 4-2 to No. 33 Stanford at ACC Championship

CARY, N.C. – Tech’s season ends in the second round of the ACC Championship with a 4-2 loss to No. 33 Stanford Cardinal on Wednesday afternoon. 

The day got off to a positive start with Elizaveta Castillo and Alston Myatt finding a 6-2 win over Stanford. No. 54 Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu followed it up shortly with their own 6-2 win on Court 1. 

In singles, Uslu was dominant, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win over No. 25 Monika Ekstrand. 

The Hokies fell on Courts 2, 3, and 4 in sweeps, as they struggled to take more than two games in any set. Myatt ultimately fell in the deciding match on Court 5, with a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Stanford’s Sein Myoung. 

Linda Ziets-Segura was looking to back a comeback after dropping the first set and taking the second set 6-3 when the match was abandoned. Her score sat at 2-6, 6-3, 0-1.
