OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Coming off his best slugging week of the 2026 season, Virginia Tech senior catcher Henry Cooke was named the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week, as announced during the College Baseball Foundation’s weekly award presentation.
Cooke went 9-for-16 at the plate with a double, a triple and a home run, charting three multi-hit performances during each of the Hokies’ ACC games against Boston College. Drawing two walks, the fourth-year backstop from Stuarts Draft, Virginia, reached base 11 times for a .611 on-base percentage, rounding out his week on the diamond with four runs, three RBIs, a stolen base, two runners caught stealing and errorless play spanning 36 defensive chances.
After shaking off his 2-for-35 start to the 2026 season, Cooke has returned to form as one of Virginia Tech’s most reliable producers. Since the Hokies’ ACC opener on March 6, he leads the team with his .348 batting average featuring each of his 10 extra-base hits (six doubles, a triple, three home runs) – the second most during that stretch behind freshman Ethan Ball (13).
Against the ACC, Cooke leads Virginia Tech in batting average (.382, 21-for-55), slugging percentage (.673) and OPS (1.151) while boasting a 24.0 caught stealing percentage. Cumulatively, the Blacksburg veteran pulls into the final five weeks of the regular season with his .248 batting average (season high), having caught 11 runners stealing.
Cooke and Virginia Tech return to action on Tuesday, April 14, when the Hokies entertain Radford at English Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
