BLACKSBURG – The Hokies drop the regular season finale, 4-1, to No. 70 Wake Forest on Friday afternoon.
Tech dropped the doubles point to the Demon Deacons, as No. 50 Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu fell 6-1 to No. 87 Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum on Court 1, and Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura dropped their match to Sankavi Gownder and Evie Oxford, also to the score of 6-1.
Doubles was highlighted by a win from the two freshmen in the lineup for the Hokies, as Elizaveta Castillo and Alston Myatt beat Krystal Branch and Aubrey Nisbet, 6-2.
Singles started with a senior day sweep from Gamretkaia, who took down her opponent 6-3, 6-1.
Myatt fell to Gownder in straight sets, while Ziets-Segura dropped in a three-set match to Tannenbaum, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Mulready fell in the deciding match to Oxford, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Castillo and Uslu were battling on their respective courts in the third set. Castillo was down 2-1, and Uslu was down 4-0 when the matches were abandoned.
The Hokies finish the regular season with a 4-16, 1-11 ACC record and will wait to see their opponent and seeding in the ACC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, April 14.
