CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 11/12 Virginia Tech (34-6, 9-4 ACC) fell to No. 17/21 Virginia (33-6, 10-5 ACC) 4-3 in the series opener.

How It Happened
It was a pitcher’s duel from the beginning as neither team had a hit until the third inning. Addison Foster launched a two-out triple to right field in the top of the third with two outs, but Jordan Lynch was unable to bring her home.

The Hokies got on the board first in the top of the fourth. Nora Abromavage found herself on second after a walk and a pass ball, and was set up perfectly for Kylie Aldridge, who drilled a double to straight center to bring Abromavage home.

The Cavaliers punched right back with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Virginia added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single to second base to make it a 4-1 Cavalier lead.

Tech chipped away at the deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Gaby Mizelle hit a swinging bunt down the first base line to bring in Abromavage. With two outs with the bases still loaded, Foster drew the RBI walk to make it 4-3.

The Hokies were unable to tie the contest in the top of the seventh to force extras.
