BLACKSBURG – The Hokies were outmatched on Friday afternoon as they fell to No. 14 NC State 4-0.
Tech fell on Courts 1 and 3 on doubles to the score of 6-2 in both matches. No. 50 Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu were matched up against the No. 2 doubles pair in the country, Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe, and were unable to find their footing.
Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura were battling with No. 70 Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova on Court 2, with the match tied 4-4 at the time of the doubles point being clinched.
The Hokies had three student-athletes fall in straight sets in singles to give the 4-0 win to the Wolfpack. Gamretkaia was sitting at 6-4, 0-6 against No. 53 Zyryanova at the time the match was called. Both Elizaveta Castillo and Ziets-Segura were down in the second set at the final clinch.
