CHARLOTTE – Virginia Tech forward Amani Hansberry earned All-ACC Honorable Mention accolades Monday night as the league office announced postseason honors.
In his first season with the Hokies, Hansberry has made an immediate impact for the squad, starting in all 30 of his appearances in maroon and orange. The team’s leading scorer, he has averaged 14.3 points per game with an efficient 49.2% field goal percentage. The 6-foot-8 Hansberry has recorded four games of 20 or more points this season with his season-high (22) coming in the Hokies’ ACC/SEC Challenge overtime win at South Carolina. His 7.4 rebounds per game rank tenth in the conference and the Silver Spring, Maryland native’s eight double-doubles rank fourth amongst ACC athletes.
Early in the season, he had a streak of four consecutive double-doubles which were the most for a Hokie since 2011. He became the first Hokie to record a double-double in his first three ACC contests when he did so against Virginia, Wake Forest and Stanford consecutively.
Hansberry and the Hokies will begin their run at the T. Rowe Price ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, March 10 with a 7 p.m. tilt against the 13-seed Wake Forest. Coverage is available on ACCN with Wes Durham (play-by-play), Debbie Antonelli (color) and Dennis Scott (color) providing commentary. The five seed Clemson awaits the winner of that contest on Wednesday.
