SALEM, Va. – No. 11 Virginia Tech (21-2) capped off a second consecutive 5-0 weekend with an 11-1 run-rule victory over Bryant on Sunday morning.
Tech hit four home runs against the Bulldogs in the team's 14th-straight win.
How It Happened
The Hokies hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the second to get the scoring started. Emma Mazzarone hit her third home run of the season – a solo shot to right center – to give Tech a 1-0 lead. Immediately after, Jordan Bishop hit her first career home run, which was also her first collegiate hit, to make it 2-0 Hokies.
With two outs, Nora Abromavage drew a bases-loaded walk and Gaby Mizelle followed her up with a two-RBI double to left field to score Jordan Lynch and Michelle Chatfield.
The Bulldogs added a run in the bottom of the second, but the Hokies responded with a run of their own in the top of the third as Bishop smashed her second career hit – a solo home run to left center – to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
The Hokies exploded for five more runs in the top of the fifth. With runners on first and second, Michelle Chatfield ripped a two-RBI triple to right center, which was followed up by an RBI single to center from Addison Foster.
Jordan Lynch capped off the five-run inning with a two-run home run to right field to make it an 11-1 game.
After stellar performances from Avery Layton and Addison Fisher in the circle, Cassie Grizzard pitched the final inning in relief to secure the win.
