SALEM, Va. – No. 11 Virginia Tech (18-2) extended its win streak to 11 games with a 7-0 shutout win over James Madison.
Avery Layton earned her fourth win of the season in the circle, and Gaby Mizelle and Addison Foster went yard in the shutout victory.
How It Happened
Tech jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first drilled an RBI single to center field to score Kylie Aldridge.
The Hokies exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Gaby Mizelle got the scoring started with a solo home run – her third of the season – to extend the lead to 2-0.
With Annika Rohs on second, Michelle Chatfield singled to left field to bring her in. Immediately after, an RBI single from Aldridge drove in Chatfield. Zoe Yaeger followed her up with a single of her own, and Nora Abromavage delivered a final RBI single of the inning to make it a 5-0 game.
In the bottom of the third with Jordan Lynch on first, Addison Foster launched a two-run home run down the right field line to make it a 7-0 contest.
Despite not scoring another run the rest of the game, Avery Layton shut the Dukes down in the circle. She threw five innings and only allowed three hits.
Sophie Kleiman was clutch for the Hokies in relief as well as she only allowed two hits over 2.0 innings pitched.
