Five-run first inning propels No. 11 Hokies over Michigan

Tech is now 17-2 – its best record through 19 games since 2013

SALEM, Va. – No. 11 Virginia Tech (17-2) won its 10th straight game with a 5-3 win over Michigan on Thursday night at the Moyer Sports Complex.

Emma Mazzarone earned the win as she went 5.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts, while Bree Carrico recorded her third save of the season.

How It Happened
Tech scored all five of its runs in an explosive first inning. With runners on first and second, Nora Abromavage singled down the left field to score Kylie Aldridge and take a 1-0 lead.

Jordan Lynch followed her up with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Zoe Yaeger and extending the lead to 2-0. With runners on second and third, Addison Foster delivered a clutch two-RBI triple to center field to make it a 4-0 game.

Gabby Mizelle delivered the final run of the inning as she singled to center field to score Foster.

Michigan scored two runs in the top of the second to cut it to 5-2 – a score that stayed until the top of the sixth. The Wolverines scored once again in the top of the sixth on a bases-loaded walk, but Bree Carrico got the Hokies out of the jam as Michigan flied out to center to end the inning.

Carrico forced three straight outs in the top of the seventh to secure the Hokie win and her third save of the season.
