BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech lacrosse defeated the East Carolina Pirates, 14-10, Tuesday afternoon. The win moves the Hokies to 8-6, ahead of their final slate of ACC matchups.

Scoring started efficiently for both squads, with three goals being scored in a 90-second span at the 12-minute mark. Reese Wallich found the net for the Hokies’ first goal of the game, her fifth game-opening goal of the season. Ally Phalines followed her fellow sophomore with back-to-back goals. An East Carolina push left the Hokies trailing 5-4 at the first quarter break.

Tech came out strong in the second quarter, scoring four goals, and holding the Pirates scoreless, the third time they’ve shut out an opponent in a quarter this season.

The Hokies generated more momentum in the second half, scoring an additional four unanswered goals. The Pirates slipped three goals past Malie Follet in the final eight minutes, but could not hold off Virginia Tech.

Phalines tallied her first career hat trick, with Catherine Karman, Lauren Render, and Wallich each scoring two goals apiece.

In goal, Follet had seven saves, her eleventh game of the season with five or more saves.
