CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the first time in her career, Gaby Mizelle has been named ACC Freshman of the Week.
Mizelle was crucial in the Hokies’ 5-0 weekend at the Jane B. Memorial Invitational. Through five starts, Mizelle was second on the team with a .571 average, going 8-for-14 with two doubles, one home run and a .929 slug percentage.
The Raleigh, N.C., native recorded a hit in each of the Hokies’ five wins. She went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the Hokies’ 15-4 run-rule win over USC Upstate. In the Hokies’ 9-5 win over Auburn, Mizelle went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The freshman also went 1-for-3 with one run scored in Tech’s 6-2 victory over Auburn on Saturday.
Mizelle has been stellar for the Hokies so far in her rookie season. Currently, she has started all 18 games and is hitting .358 with a .397 on-base percentage. She has two home runs and 16 RBIs on the year.
The No. 11/11 Hokies (16-2) take on the Hokie Invite (March 5-8) with matchups against Michigan, James Madison, Penn State, Radford and Bryant at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.
