BLACKSBURG – The Hokies were unable to overcome playing with four athletes, as No. 24 Duke took a 4-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Tech had five active student-athletes on the afternoon, resulting in only fielding five singles players and two doubles teams. This resulted in forfeits on Court 3 doubles and Court 6 singles. An additional forfeit occurred on Court 5 when the Hokies pulled an athlete prior to singles beginning.

Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura put up a strong fight in doubles but ultimately fell 6-3 to Liv Hovde and Aspen Schuman. No. 44-ranked Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu were tied up at 4-4 when the point was called.

Going into singles, the Hokies were down 3-0 in the match due to the two forfeits on the back courts. Ziets-Segura fell in straight sets on Court 4 as Duke clinched the match.

Uslu was looking to reverse sweep No. 19 Irina Balus, as she was sitting at 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 in the match, while Gamretkaia was trying to close out the second set as she was up 6-4, 3-2. Mulready was in a battle with her opponent, down 7-5, 3-1.
