CLEMSON, S.C. - Virginia Tech lacrosse fell to the tenth-ranked Clemson Tigers 17-9, Saturday night.
The Hokies started slow, not scoring until 12 minutes into the first quarter. Mia Pozzi set up the opening goal, finding Lauren Render to put Virginia Tech on the board.
Early in the second quarter, a Clemson foul sent left-handed freshman Catherine Karman to the eight-meter line, which she capitalized on for her first career goal. The Hokies were held scoreless for the remainder of the half and trailed 10-2 at the break.
Tech generated momentum in the third quarter, with goals from Reese Wallich and Render helping to push the offense heading into the final period.
Render led the Hokies’ late surge, scoring four goals in the fourth quarter alone, making her final tally for the game an impressive six goals. It was the third game of her career where the senior scored six or more goals. Maggie Flanagan added another to bring the final score to 17-9.
