BRIGHTON, Mass. – No. 11/12 Virginia Tech (30-4) dominated its Friday doubleheader against Boston College (10-22) with an 11-0 (5) win in Game One and a 14-4 (6) victory in Game Two.

Tech was unstoppable at the plate and in the circle. Both Bree Carrico and Emma Mazzarone tied their career-high 10 strikeouts, while the Hokies hit .448 as a team over both games with five different Hokies hitting a home run.

How It Happened: Game 1 • Virginia Tech 11, Boston College 0 (5)
Tech exploded for four runs in the top of the second, which started with a solo home run launched to deep left by Gaby Mizelle – the freshman’s fifth of the season.

After Rachel Castine singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Addison Foster drilled an RBI single to center field to bring her home. Jordan Lynch followed Foster up with a two-run home run to right field to extend the Hokie lead to 4-0.

Tech had a second big inning with a seven-run top of the fifth. With Michelle Chatfield on third and Lily Pallante on first, Mizelle delivered her second RBI of the day with a single down the left field line to make it a 5-0 lead. Adding on to the big inning was an RBI single from Castine, along with a clutch pinch hit appearance from Mazzarone, who helped herself out with an RBI single to right field to score Mizelle.

Foster doubled to left field to score Castine, and with two runners on, Lynch ripped her second home run of the day – a three-run blast to center field – to extend the Hokies lead to 11-0.

Mazzarone pitched the complete game-shutout as she tied her career high with 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits.

How It Happened: Game 2 • Virginia Tech 14, Boston College 4 (6)
Tech picked up right where they left and started the second game with three straight hits. Addison Foster led off the Hokies with a single up the middle, which was immediately followed up by a single from Jordan Lynch. Nora Abromavage then doubled to center field to bring home the Hokies’ first run of the day.

Zoe Yaeger delivered an RBI groundout to second to bring home Lynch, and a single by Gaby Mizelle led Abromavage to cross the plate and make it a 3-0 game.

Boston College saw two base runners cross the plate to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the first, but Tech punched right back in the top of the third.

After a leadoff double from Annika Rohs and a walk by Lynch, Abromavage hit her 10th home run of the season to extend the Tech lead to 6-2. With no runners on, Michelle Chatfield drove a home run off the first pitch to deep left field to make it 7-2.

Tech added another run in the top of the third off a wild pitch. In the bottom of the third, Boston College hit a two-run home run to right field to make it an 8-4 game.

Tech struck again in the top of the fifth after a single by Rachel Castine and a double from Rohs put runners on second and third with no outs. Foster hit a double straight into the right center gap to score both and make it a 10-4 lead.

The Hokies scored four more runs in the top of the sixth to secure the run-rule win. After Chatfield walked, Kylie Aldridge hit her third home run of the season – a two-run shot to center – to put the Hokies up 12-4.

An RBI double from Castine and a sacrifice fly from Foster capped off the four-run inning.

Carrico, who entered in relief for the Hokies in the third inning, was lights out. She tied her career high 10 strikeouts and faced just 16 batters over 4.0 innings pitched for her ninth win of the season.
