BLACKSBURG – Tech is unable to match No. 5 North Carolina’s power as it falls 4-0 at home.
The Hokies were home for the first time since February 22 and welcomed one of the top teams in the country to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Elizaveta Castillo and Alston Myatt fell 6-1 in doubles to the Tar Heels’ pairing of Evans and Frey. In a close competition on Court 1, No. 44-ranked Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu fell to No. 5-ranked Brantmeier and Hamilton, 6-4.
Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura were in a tight battle against Maltby and Zampardo, with the match being left unfinished at 5-5 when the Tar Heels clinched the doubles point.
The Hokies pulled their Court 3 singles player going into the second half of the match. This bumped the rest of the lineup up a spot and resulted in a forfeit on Court 6 due to not having another available athlete.
Myatt and Ziets-Segura both fell in two sets to finalize the win for North Carolina. The remaining three Hokies were in battles against ranked opponents in the second set at the conclusion of the match.
