TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Hokies find their first conference win, 4-1 over the Florida State Seminoles on Sunday afternoon.
The day started with No. 44 Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu finding their fourth win in a row, as they defeated Eva Shaw and Tina Li, 6-1, to open doubles. Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura grabbed a 6-4 win over Laura Putz and Abby Kelliher to secure the doubles point for the Hokies.
Mulready kept her momentum rolling into singles as she picked up her second conference win of the season over Laura Putz, 6-1, 6-0. Uslu followed in suit with a 6-4, 6-4 sweep over Eva Shaw to put the Hokies up 3-0 in the match.
Ziets-Segura clinched the match with her 6-2, 7-5 sweep on Court 6 over Lauren Anderson.
Freshman Alston Myatt fell in straight sets against Florida State’s Cade Cricchio. Elizaveta Castillo was leading in her match 6-4, 5-4, while Gamretkaia was trying to force a third set, when the match was called.
