BLACKSBURG – No. 12/14 Virginia Tech (26-4) opened its home slate with a 10-0 run-rule victory over NC State.
Kylie Aldridge and Jordan Lynch were crucial in the Hokies’ mercy-rule victory, combining for four hits and eight RBIs.
How It Happened
The Hokies got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. After Addison Foster led off the inning with a double, Zoe Yaeger traded places with her and doubled to right center to put the Hokies up 1-0.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Jordan Lynch delivered a bases-clearing three-RBI double to left center to extend the Hokie lead to 4-0.
Tech exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third. After back-to-back hits from Yaeger and Michelle Chatfield, Kylie Aldridge ripped a single up the middle to bring them both home.
Rachel Castine delivered an RBI single of her own to make it a 7-0 game, and Lynch recorded the final two RBIs of the inning after her triple down the right field scored Foster and Castine.
In the bottom of the fourth, Aldridge gave the Hokies a double-digit lead with her solo home run to right field.
Emma Mazzarone earned her team-leading seventh win of the season. She allowed just two hits and struck out eight batters over 5.0 innings pitched.
