BLACKSBURG  - Virginia Tech lacrosse fell to the twelfth-ranked Duke Blue Devils, 15-9, Saturday afternoon.

Tech got off to a slow start, as the Blue Devils scored four unanswered to open the game. A costly yellow card was called on Duke at 2:38 after an illegal stick was found following a free position goal, which was overturned. Capitalizing on the man-up play, Reese Wallich and Mia Pozzi netted the Hokies’ first two goals of the game.

Tech went on a run throughout the second quarter. Wallich grabbed her second goal of the game, and Lauren Render and Cassandra Montgomery each tallied one, as well. At the half, Duke led 7-5.

Early goals in the second half from Render and Sophia Trahan provided a spark which tied the game at seven goals apiece, but three caused turnovers and a four-goal run from Duke in the third quarter stifled the Hokies.

Wallich slipped her third of the game past Duke’s defense in the fourth quarter and Sarah Murrell also found the net, but it was not enough to hold back the ranked Blue Devil squad.

In goal, Malie Follet had nine saves.
