HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Hokies gained their third straight victory Tuesday evening, triumphing over the High Point Panthers, 9-4.
The Virginia Tech squad got off to a stagnant start. Their first goal came over 11 minutes into play, coming from the stick of Sarah Murrell. The remainder of the half was characterized by gritty defense, with both sides committing nine turnovers in the first two frames. The Hokies trailed 3-1 at the break.
The next Virginia Tech goal was netted early in the third quarter when Reese Wallich set up on the eight meter line for a free position attempt. The Panthers grabbed their fourth goal of the game 90 seconds later, their final of the game.
From there, the Hokie squad pushed the offense, scoring seven unanswered goals, which was fueled by back-to-back goals from junior Cassandra Montgomery.
Wallich and Murrell each tabbed another free position goal. Lauren Render, Kamryn Henson, and Mia Pozzi all scored once. Henson also tallied two assists.
In goal, Malie Follet had seven saves.
