CHARLOTTE - In the first round of the ACC Tournament, Virginia Tech men’s basketball lost 95-89 in overtime against Wake Forest.
In the last four minutes of regulation, the Hokies charged back from a 71-66 deficit on the backs of Ben Hammond and Jailen Bedford to knot the game at 73 apiece.
In overtime, the Deacons answered every Tech basket with one of their own, and finished the game with free throws in the final minute.
Ben Hammond was the spark for the Hokies in the game. Playing 40 minutes of the game, he notched 23 points, while shooting a pinpoint 75% from three, and on the defensive end, had two steals and a block.
Fellow Hokie guard, Jailen Bedford, turned it up in the second half, scoring 11 points. Bedford was also a force on the glass, snagging a season-high eight rebounds for the game.
Myles Colvin had a huge shooting performance for Wake, hitting five of his seven shots and going six for six from the charity stripe. Colvin ended the game with 18 points, seven of which were in overtime.
Despite the loss, Antonio Dorn had a career night. The big-man reached career-highs in rebounds, blocks and assists with eight, two and three, respectively, and eight points off the bench.
GAME NOTES
• The game's starters were Ben Hammond, Jailen Bedford, Neoklis Avdalas, Tobi Lawal and Christian Gurdak. It was the tenth different starting lineup of the season for the Hokies.
• Tobi Lawal finished with 12 points, which earned his twelfth double-digit scoring performance against ACC opponents this season.
• Jaden Schutt sank three triples and six of six free throws to end with 15 points.
