AIKEN, S.C. – Virginia Tech junior Ashton Harper fired an opening-round, 7-under 63 en route to capturing the individual title at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, Tuesday afternoon. The two-day event was contested at Palmetto Golf Club (par 70, 6,617 yards).
Harper's 63 was highlighted by eight birdies; he led the field with 20 birdies overall, out-pacing the next closest competitor with 15. The opening-round 63 eclipsed five Tech golfers who carded 64, most recently done by Connor Burgess in 2021.
The Roanoke, Va., native delivered an 8-under 202 (63-68-71) to edge Campbell's Benjamin Killingstad by a shot. As a team, the Hokies placed fifth at 10-over 850 (281-285-284).
Campbell claimed the team title at 10-under 830 (278-277-275), two shots clear of UAB.
The Hokies are back in action March 20-22 at the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga.
