AUBURN, Ala. – No. 11/12 Virginia Tech (16-2) wrapped up a 5-0 weekend at the Jane B. Memorial Invitational with an 11-3 run-rule victory over USC Upstate.
How It Happened
USC Upstate struck first in the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead, but the Hokies responded immediately. RBI singles from both Nora Abromavage and Addison Foster gave Tech the 2-1 lead after the first inning.
The Hokies added four more runs in the bottom of the second off two long balls. With Annika Rohs on first, Michelle Chatfield blasted her fourth home run of the season to give Tech a 4-1 lead. After Kylie Aldridge doubled down the left field line, Zoe Yaeger homered to center to make it 6-1.
An RBI double by Aldridge and an RBI single by Yaeger added two more Tech runs in the bottom of the third. Leading 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth, RBI singles by Gaby Mizelle and Rohs made it a 10-1 game.
After a USC Upstate two-run home run in the top of the fifth to cut it to 10-3, Tech capitalized on a leadoff single by Zoe Yaeger as Addison Foster doubled to left field for the walk-off 11-3 win.
