MACON, Ga. - Virginia Tech lacrosse started its 2026 campaign with a 12-10 win over Mercer.
Four players scored two goals apiece. Junior Cassandra Montgomery scored the first goals of her career and also tallied an assist to lead the Hokies with three points.
The Hokies got out to a strong start, scoring six goals in the first frame of play. Tech was slowed down by the Bears in the second quarter, only finding the back of the net three times.
In the second half, Mercer began to find its rythym, going on a 7-3 scoring run, but Tech managed to hold the Bears off with a crucial caused turnover by junior Mia Pozzi in the remaining minutes of the game.
The Hokies registered 12 goals, seven draw controls, six ground balls, three assists and two caused turnovers in their victory.
