Paris Leads Hokies in Heptathlon to Open ACC Championships

The Hokies kicked off competition with a strong showing in the heptathlon, as Paris paced the group through day one of the multis.

BOSTON – Nate Paris posted personal and season bests across four events to lead the heptathlon after the opening day of the ACC Indoor Championships at the TRACK at New Balance.

Paris totaled 3,264 points to sit in first place. He opened with a personal-best 6.81 in the 60 meters to win the event and earn 951 points. In the long jump, he tied his season best with a mark of 7.10 meters (23' 3.5") to place third and add 838 points. He recorded a personal-best 13.07 meters (42' 10.75" ) in the shot put to finish fifth and collect 672 points. Paris closed the day with a season-best clearance of 2.00 meters (6' 6.75") in the high jump to win the event and score 803 points.

He will compete in the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters Friday to conclude the heptathlon.

Also competing in the multis, Lilly Ver Beek recorded a personal-best 11.61 meters in the shot put during the pentathlon. She added a 5.81 meter (19' .75") effort in the long jump to place second in the event.

Nicholas Kipchirchir earned two points for the Hokies with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000 meters, crossing in 13:52.41.

In the men’s pole vault, Jack Helmich cleared 5.00 meters (16' 4.75") to tie for seventh place and score two points.

The men’s distance medley relay team placed fifth in 9:37.51 to earn four points. Sam Idiens ran the 1,200-meter leg in 2:57.13, Calvin Meyer covered the 400 meters in 46.90, Ben Reynolds completed the 800 meters in 1:50.80 and Roan Kelly anchored the 1,600 meters in 4:02.82.

On the women’s side, the Hokies’ distance medley relay finished seventh in a season-best 11:10.40 to earn two points. Jule Lindner ran the 1,200 meters in 3:26.95, Farah Nasir posted a 55.72 split in the 400 meters, Emma Lindner clocked 2:09.51 in the 800 meters and Katie Bohlke finished with a 4:38.24 performance in the 1,600 meters.

 

Up Next

Virginia Tech returns to the Track at New Balance on Friday for the second day of competition. The heptathlon resumes at 11 a.m. ET, with running events scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
