No. 20 Hokies defeat No. 12 Georgia, 9-3, to go undefeated at Georgia Classic

ATHENS, Ga. – No. 17/20 Virginia Tech capped off the Georgia Classic with a 9-3 victory over No. 12/16 Georgia on Sunday to go a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.

Eight different Hokies recorded a hit as Tech scored nine unanswered runs to secure the win. In the circle, Bree Carrico was lights out as she earned her third win of the season after holding the Bulldogs to one hit over five innings pitched.

How It Happened
Trailing 3-0 through three innings, Tech exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.

After Nora Abromavage singled to center, Jordan Lynch delivered the RBI double to bring her in. Immediately after, Addison Foster hit her second home run of the season to tie the game. Michelle Chatfield ripped a first-pitch RBI single through the left side and Kylie Aldridge followed her up with an RBI single of her own to take a 5-3 lead.

Tech kept it rolling in the top of the fifth. To lead off the inning, Abromavage drilled her fifth home run of the season to center field to extend the lead to 6-3. Gaby Mizelle’s groundout to first scored Lynch, and Annika Rohs and Aldridge delivered RBI singles to make it a 9-3 game.

After the Bulldogs scored three runs in the first two innings, Bree Carrico entered the circle and shut them down. The sophomore recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one hit over the final five innings pitched.
