Hokies fall in nail-biter to JMU

The team's upperclassmen found wins in singles

BLACKSBURG – Tech falls 4-3 in a thriller of a match against JMU on Sunday afternoon. 

Sophomores Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura won their doubles match 6-2 as they took down JMU’s Reka Matko and Mia Saveljic. Alston Myatt and Kirsten Woods fell in the tiebreaker, 7-4, to give the Dukes the doubles point. 

In singles, Arina Gamretkaia started the Hokies off with a sweep over JMU’s Saveljic, 6-3, 6-2. 

Özlem Uslu continued with the sweeps as she picked up her third win of the season, 7-5, 6-0 over JMU’s Daria Munteanu. 

Laima Frosch also found a win, defeating Brooklyn Hoffmann, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. 

Despite the 3-1 lead, the Hokies fell on Courts 4 and 6 in sweeps, leaving it all to Myatt on Court 5. Myatt fell to Ariel Avidan, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(2).
