HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Hokies fell to No. 21 James Madison, 13-7, in their second contest of the 2026 season Wednesday evening.
Senior Lauren Render scored Tech’s first goal of the game, her third of the season, before the Hokies went on an almost 12-minute scoring drought. JMU led 7-3 at the half.
Kamryn Henson sparked momentum for the second half, finding the back of the net off of an assist by Sophia Trahan to cut the deficit to 7-4. Less than a minute later, Cassandra Montgomery dished the ball into Mia Pozzi for Tech's fifth goal.
With six turnovers, five of them uncaused, committed by the Dukes in the fourth quarter, things looked like they may shift in favor of the Hokies. However, two JMU goals in the last two minutes of play sealed the victory for the ranked Dukes squad.
Tech’s seven goals were scored by six different players. Midfielder Cassandra Montgomery continued her strong start to her junior season with two goals and one assist, with attacker Sophia Trahan scoring one goal and tallying two assists, to lead the squad with three points apiece.
