HUMACAO, P.R. - The Virginia Tech men’s golf program officially kicked off the 2026 season in warm weather at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate in Humacao, Puerto Rico. The tournament ended Tuesday at Palmas del Mar Country Club (par 72, 7,122 yards).
The Hokies carded an 864 (289-288-287) for an eighth-place finish led by Gareth Steyn at 4-under par (71-72-69) and Ashton Harper who was even par for the tournament (68-76-72).
No. 25 Wake Forest (282-281-275) used a dominant final round at 13-under par to propel them to the title. No. 43 TCU finished second, and Southern Illinois was third.
Tom Haberer played a major role in the Wake Forest title, taking medalist honors with a 13-under 203. The Demon Deacons also had the second-place finisher, Nicholas Prieto, who shot an 11-under 205.
Tech will take a month off before the Hokies tee off again at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on March 9. The tournament will be played at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, SC.
