Opens in a new window RECENT GRAD PROGRAM

Ben Goetz ('24), a computer engineering grad, joined us for the HokieBird Holiday Photoshoot in December last year and hasn't let Hokie spirit leave him as he begins his career nearby.

A two-time Hokie grad, Ben Goetz currently still resides close to the university he called home for the last five years, living in Christiansburg and working as a software engineer for Peraton Inc. Ben credits Virginia Tech Athletics for riveting childhood memories, a family-like community, and even introducing his now fiancé into his life. He now attends Hokie sporting events year-round and even includes his dog, Noodles, in some of the experiences as pictured above.

Any interests outside of work or fun facts about yourself that you'd like to share?

BG: Since I still live so close to Blacksburg, a lot of my time is spent attending Hokies sporting events year-round with my fiancé Mackenzie who is also a VT alum.

I also enjoy skiing, collecting sports trading cards, and taking my dog, Noodles, to the dog park.

Why do you think it is important to give back to Virginia Tech Athletics?

BG: Virginia Tech Athletics has always been a big part of my life, and I got such a sense of community and amazing memories from my time working in athletics. Virginia Tech Athletics gave me so much, that for me, the least I could do is give back.

Why did you decide to attend Virginia Tech?

BG: Both of my parents graduated from Virginia Tech, so I grew up coming to many football games and other athletic events which made me fall in love with the school.

How has Virginia Tech Athletics impacted you?

BG: Virginia Tech Athletics has had a large impact on my life by giving me the opportunity to work behind the scenes in the athletic department, an experience few people get to have. As a student, I served as an equipment manager for Virginia Tech Football, which shaped my college experience. Through this role, I formed some of my closest friendships and even met my fiancé. Being part of that team remains one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, and it is something I would not trade for anything.

What is your favorite Virginia Tech sports memory?

BG: The 2011 football game against Miami. The game was exciting and Lane Stadium was rocking. I vividly remember Logan Thomas scoring the go-ahead touchdown and Sandman playing in the final moments.

Why would you encourage other Virginia Tech Recent Graduates to give?

BG: This is your chance to have a direct impact on the success of the school and athletics that gave you amazing experiences. It also keeps you involved in such an amazing community of Hokies.
