BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry announced Wednesday the addition of Trey Neyer to his staff as assistant athletic director of player personnel. Neyer arrives in Blacksburg with a decade of experience in college football, including time in the SEC and Big 12, serving as the director of player personnel at West Virginia in 2024.
“Trey is a tremendous addition to our staff. His deep experience in recruiting, roster management and player personnel at multiple levels of college football make him an invaluable asset to our program,” said Pry. “His ability to evaluate talent, build relationships and navigate the ever-evolving recruiting landscape will have a significant impact on Virginia Tech Football. We’re excited to have him in Blacksburg and know he’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our roster.”
Neyer started his tenure at WVU as the defensive recruiting coordinator in 2020 and was promoted to associate director of recruiting the following season. He climbed to the director of recruiting role for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Prior to coming to WVU, Neyer served as the director of player personnel at Miami University (Ohio) from 2018 to 2020, where he supervised the recruiting efforts for the RedHawks’ football program, including roster management and planning duties, managing all recruiting evaluations, and maintaining the program’s database. In addition, he coordinated the assistant coaches recruiting areas and assigned responsibilities.
Neyer was an offensive graduate assistant intern at Miami during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, working with the running backs and overseeing the team’s kickoff return responsibilities.
While an undergraduate student at Alabama, he was a student assistant for the Crimson Tide football program and was a part of two national championships under Nick Saban. The North Bend, Ohio, native graduated with his bachelor’s degree in communication and information sciences in 2017.
Neyer and his wife, Lacey, are expecting their first child in May.
