STANFORD, CA – The No. 10 Virginia Tech wrestling team (7-2, 3-1) took care of business on the road in a dominant showing over No. 17 Stanford Cardinal 30-13 in the Hokies’ last regular season road journey of the season. Tech secured wins in seven of ten bouts for their fourth-straight win and improve to 4-0 all-time against Stanford.

McGonagle Downs No. 6

  • After a limited start in his final year of eligibility, graduate transfer No. 19 Connor McGonagle has been surging as of late to stand at 7-1 on the season. McGonagle registered his biggest win this season – and possibly his career – with a sudden victory decision over No. 6 Tyler Knox, 3-0. After a scoreless first and rideouts by both wrestlers in the second and third period, the two New England natives squared off in sudden victory with McGonagle finishing the bout with a takedown to earn the upset victory.

 Bonus Streaks Continue

  • 14 Jimmy Mullen picked up his fifth-straight bonus point victory with his first period footsweep to fall. Mullen’s impressive streak of major decision, tech fall, tech fall, fall, and fall to push the redshirt freshman’s record to 16-3.
  • 23 Thomas Stewart, Jr. is finding his stride when it matters most as the returning All-American picked up his fourth-straight bonus victory after a slow start to the season. The reigning ACC champion has won his last four matches via tech fall, tech fall, fall, and major decision.
  • The hunt for Hodge continues for The Hitman as No. 1 Caleb Henson picked up his 12th bonus point victory in his junior year campaign. The reigning, defending national champion has won his last three bouts via fall, major decision, and tech fall to push his bonus point rate to 86% with his unblemished record of 14-0.

The Veterans Get It Done

  • Graduate No. 10 Sam Latona showed veteran poise in the final regular season road bout of his illustrious Hokie career with a 9-6 sudden victory win over No. 21 Jason Miranda. Latona was trailing late with just over a minute to go before notching a takedown to take the lead. The Cardinal would escape to tie the bout and send it to extra time, but it was Latona who would secure his third takedown of the match and win in a ranked matchup.
  • Returning to action after ailment, it was No. 29 Lennox Wolak securing a tactical 8-2 decision on Friday night. Wolak secured two takedowns and was pushing for a third for more bonus points, but just came up short in the closing seconds of the bout.

The Hokies return to action at home next Friday night against Pitt on February 14 at 7 p.m. EST in Cassell Coliseum live on ACC Network Extra. Follow Hokies Wrestling on X, Instagram, and Facebook for the latest Virginia Tech wrestling news and updates.
