BLACKSBURG - Behind 16 points from Neoklis Avdalas and four other Hokies in double figures, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team earned an 82-53 victory Sunday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum, the team's fourth in a row. Tech's record moves to 10-2 ahead of the final non-conference matchup of the regular season.

Tech used a 10-0 run around the four minute mark to take control of the game with consecutive buckets from Amani Hansberry, Izaiah Pasha, Tyler Johnson and Ben Hammond.
At the break, the Hokies led 38-29. Eight of the nine Hokies who featured had scored a bucket, lead by Jaden Schutt (7) and Hammond (7).
In the second half, Teh distanced itself from the Hawks thanks to a balanced scoring effort and defensive pressure that only allowed 24 points from UMES. The Hawks shot 29% from the field in the seond half.
Avdalas continued to make the right passes and other Hokies knocked down shots, including Christian Gurdak who made all five of his field goal attempts. Johnson, Hansberry and Hammond were all north of 50% as well.
Late on in the contest freshman Sin'Cere Jones made the first two buckets of his collegiate career.
GAME NOTES
•The starters for Virginia Tech were Neoklis Avdalas, Jaden Schutt, Tyler Johnson, Amani Hansberry, and Antonio Dorn. It was the first time this starting five was used this season.
•It was Schutt's first start since Feb. 25, 2025 against Louisville.
•Izaiah Pasha played a season-high 27 minutes in the game.
•The Hokies are 6-0 this season when five or more athletes score in double figures.
