BLACKSBURG – No. 10 Virginia Tech defeated a scrappy Bucknell squad, 19-12, in the home opener in Cassell Coliseum on Friday night. The Hokies were propelled by six wins including upset victories by No. 20 Tom Crook over No. 14 Dylan Chappell and No. 23 Sergio Desiante over No. 20 Myles Takats.
FINDING A WAY
The Hokies welcomed back Crook after taking a redshirt last season in fashion with an 8-6 decision victory over the No. 14 ranked wrestler in the country in front of an energized Cassell crowd. Crook gave up the first takedown but would trade points back and forth right until the final buzzer. The redshirt junior secured the winning takedown in the final minute with a slick reattack to bring Cassell to its feet and push the Hokies’ team score lead.
New Hokie via transfer portal, Desiante is making an immediate impact already with an upset victory over No. 20 Myles Takats in his Cassell Coliseum debut. Desiante would score the single takedown of the bout in the first and wouldn’t look back, securing an escape in the third and displaying gritty defense to secure the upset decision win, 4-2.
