BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech fell 3-0 to Georgia Tech (12-9, 7-5 ACC) on Sunday afternoon. The Hokies move to 10-13 overall and 2-10 in ACC play.
The Hokies opened strong with a 7-3 lead before the Yellow Jackets rallied to tie the first set at 11-11. Aisha Keric delivered a key kill, followed by a block assist from Brianna Holladay to regain the edge at 13-11. Georgia Tech responded with an 8-0 run and later closed the set with a 5-0 stretch to win 25-16.
Set two was tightly contested, featuring nine ties and 14 lead changes. Payton Woods sparked the Hokies early with key blocks and kills, helping Tech to a 9-6 lead. Georgia Tech battled back but kills from Elizabeth Aylward and Holladay kept the Hokies close. With the score even at 17-17, Virginia Tech called timeout, but the Yellow Jackets pulled away with a 6-0 run to close out the set 25-20. Holladay led the Hokies in the frame with three kills (.400), while Isabella Mishler, Aylward and Woods added offensive support.
In the final set, Georgia Tech jumped out to a 4-1 start and extended its lead to 15-8, forcing a Virginia Tech timeout. Woods powered the Hokies’ attack with five kills, helping cut the deficit to 18-15 after a 4-0 run that included a service ace and a kill from Keric. The Yellow Jackets answered with another 4-0 surge and, despite efforts from Woods and Ainsley Ranstead, closed out the set 25-18 to secure the sweep.
