BLACKSBURG - The Hokies held a 16-7 lead the half, but could not hold on Saturday as the Virginia Tech football team fell to nationally-ranked Louisville 28-16 Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium. With the loss Tech is 3-6 (2-3) on the season heading into their second and final open week of the season.
No. 16 Louisville, 7-1 (3-1) keeps pace with the league leaders after orchestrating a second half comeback. Coming out of the locker room, the Cardinals found the end zone in quick succession in the third quarter with scores from Caullin Lacy and Keyjuan Brown which handed Louisville the lead they would not relinquish.
For the Hokies, who won the turnover battle, the offense could not replicate it's stellar performance from last week, registering 164 yards on 40 attempts in the game. Kyron Drones completed 11 efforts for 76 yards and one score.
Tech was held scoreless for the second half of the game.
Game Notes
•Isaiah Cash recorded his first career interception in the first quarter. He was also credited with an 18-yard return on the play. It was the grad student's first interception at Virginia Tech and sixth of his career.
•Drones' rush touchdown in the first quarter was his team-leading eighth of the season.
•P.J. Prioleau blocked a punt in the first quarter that went out the back of the end zone resulting in a safety. That was the Hokies' first punt block of the season. Prioleau also had the program's last punt block at Pitt on Oct. 8, 2022.
•The Hokies recorded a safety for the second time this season, the first was the team's first score of the season against South Carolina in Atlanta.
•Cameron Seldon caught a five-yard pass from Drones, his second receiving touchdown of the season.
•Punter Nick Veltsistas booted a 68-yard punt in the second quarter which serves as his career long. He finished the day with eight punts with an average of 47.0 yards.

The Hokies will enjoy an open date next weekend before preparing to play at Florida State on Saturday, November 15. The time and television designation for that contest have not been set.
