CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Tech dropped a hard-fought match to No. 1 Virginia, 2-1, on Saturday night at Klöckner Stadium.
Natalie Mitchell scored her sixth goal of the season in the loss.
How It Happened
No. 1 Virginia dominated the first half with nine shots to Tech’s two. The Cavaliers were able to find their first goal of the night off a strong individual effort and a strike from the top of the box 14 minutes into the match. The first half finished 1-0 to Virginia.
Virginia found their second goal in the 64th minute off a very similar sequence to the first goal. Mitchell brought Tech within a goal in the 73rd minute. Madi Boutot served a ball from beyond the halfway line, splitting the Virginia defense for Mitchell to run through. Mitchell was able to take one touch to settle the ball before finishing at the near post.

The Hokies generated more chances in the second half, with five shots and three corner kicks. Tech competed until the final whistle with a header from Taylor Price missing just wide in the final ten seconds.
