TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Despite a strong start and a determined late push, Virginia Tech fell to Florida State in straight sets Sunday afternoon, dropping to 9-11 overall and 1-9 in ACC play.
Payton Woods led the Hokie offense with 13 kills, also recording one service ace, four digs and one block. Erica Fava anchored the back row with 16 digs while adding five assists and one ace. Middle blockers Isabella Mishler (.417) and Brianna Holladay (.400) provided efficient scoring options for the Hokies at the net. Aisha Keric matched her career high with six kills and added two assists, seven digs and one block.
The opening set was tightly contested, with Virginia Tech jumping out to an early 11-6 lead before Florida State rallied back. The Hokies fought off several late set points but ultimately fell 25-23 to the Seminoles.
Set two saw FSU maintain its momentum despite solid defensive efforts and consistent passing from Fava and Woods, along with points contributed by Holladay and Woods. The Hokies dropped the second set 25-12.
Virginia Tech came out determined in the third set, forcing multiple lead changes and keeping the Seminoles under pressure. Woods continued to pace the offense with seven kills, while Elizabeth Aylward, Holladay and Keric each contributed key points down the stretch. However, a late Florida State rally sealed the match, 25-20.

The Hokies return home to host Clemson on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m. ET and Georgia Tech on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. ET.
