CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Virginia Tech women’s golf team placed fourth out of 15 teams at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, which concluded Sunday at UNC’s Finley Golf Club (par 70, 6,081 yards).
Emily Mathews placed second in her first top 10 showing of the season at 4-under 206 (70-66-70). Her 4-under 66 in the second round keyed her solid play in the tournament, with six birdies.
Valentine Delon tied for eighth with a 3-over 213 (70-68-75). Delon tallied a total of 10 birdies in the event. Virginia Tech’s team score was 20-over par 860 (283-281-296).
Auburn won the team title with 5-under 835 (281-274-280). Anna Davis claimed medalist honors with a 7-under 203 (69-67-67), three shots clear of Mathews. Duke was the runner-up, 15 strokes behind Auburn.
The Hokies head to their fall finale, the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 24-26) hosted by UNC Wilmington at Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
