GREENVILLE, S.C. – Benjamin Baker’s second-place finish propelled the Hokies to a third-place tie on the team leaderboard at the Furman Intercollegiate, which concluded Sunday at Furman University Golf Club (par 71, 7,131 yards).
Tech carded a 6-over 858 (290-280-288) to tie for third place. Baker led the charge for the Hokies, carding a 4-under 209 (73-65-71). Gareth Steyn also placed in the top 10, carding an even-par 213 (72-70-71) to tie for fifth place.
The Hokies recorded the most pars by a team in the tournament with 177.
Stetson captured the team title, finishing at 3-under 849 (281-285-283). The Hatters were led by Matthis Lefevre, who finished at 6-under 207 (65-72-70) and took home the individual title.
The Hokies are right back in action this weekend at the Steelwood Collegiate. The tournament is hosted by South Alabama and will be played at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala.
