Valentine Delon makes history in leading Tech at season-opening Cougar Classic

Junior places third, tying program record in relation to par

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Virginia Tech junior Valentine Delon put on a show at the season-opening Cougar Classic, which concluded Tuesday at Yeamans Hall Club (par 71, 6,279 yards).

Delon carded a 9-under 204 (68-67-69) to take third in the individual standings and tie the program record for 54 holes in relation to par. Former teammate Morgan Ketchum fired a 9-under 201 at the 2023 Schooner Fall Classic.

Behind Delon's strong play, Tech tied for sixth in the team standings. The Hokies turned in a 2-over 854 (287-279-288) to tie LSU, ranked seventh in the country by the WGCA, and College of Charleston.

Emily Mathews and Banthita Phoncharatkun tied for 38th at 3-over 216. Xin Yao Wang tied for 52nd at 6-over 219, while Emerson Dever tied for 84th at 14-over 227.

The Hokies next tee it up at the Schooner Fall Classic, Sept. 20-22. The event will be hosted by Oklahoma at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
