Virginia Tech Falls to No. 3 Stanford

The Hokies will return to action on October 3 and 5 to host Syracuse and Boston College.

BLACKSBURG, Va. The Virginia Tech volleyball team fell to No. 3 Stanford on Sunday afternoon, as the Cardinal secured a three-set victory at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies came out strong in the first set, staying neck-and-neck with Stanford until the Cardinal broke the tie and took control to win 25-16. Reese Hazelton led Virginia Tech in the opening set with three kills, one service ace, and one dig.

In the second set, the Hokies tied the score 11 times and saw two lead changes in a competitive effort. Brianna Holladay stood out with four kills, while Payton Woods contributed defensively with three digs. Despite the spirited performance, Virginia Tech came up short, losing 25-22.

The third set kept the energy high in Cassell Coliseum, with five lead changes and 11 ties. Payton Woods had a standout performance, leading the Hokies with six kills and one assist. Ainsley Ranstead also made a notable impact, recording three kills and three digs to finish with 11 total kills and five digs in the match. Despite their strong showing, the Hokies lost the third set 25-20.
