BLACKSBURG – The Hokies picked up their first point of ACC play with a 4-4 draw against NC State on Saturday night.

Tech had four different goal scorers find the back of the net.

How It Happened
The scoring started halfway through the first half when NC State found an attacker at the top of the box, as the deflected strike found its way past Lauren Hargrove

The Hokies found their first of the night in the 39th minute through a penalty kick converted by Taylor Lewin. Hannah Pachan drew the foul right inside the top of the 18-yard box for Tech’s first penalty kick of the season. Lewin blasted the ball into the top left corner to level the score.

The first half ended 1-1 with the Wolfpack edging out the Hokies in shots, four to three.

The scoring exploded for both teams in the second half, starting in the 52nd minute with a goal from Natalie Mitchell. Anna Weir drew a foul to set up a free kick about 25 yards away from the goal. Mitchell found the nearside bottom corner to score the Hokies’ second of the evening.

NC State responded eight minutes later with a long-range strike that found the back side-netting to draw level at two apiece.

In the 63rd minute, Pachan found her fifth of the season for Tech’s third of the night. Mitchell found Pachan at the top of the box and Pachan dribbled in for a 1v1 against the Wolfpack’s keeper, sending it up and over her down the middle. The Wolfpack once again responded in the 69th minute off another long-range shot from a quick restart on a free kick.

The Hokies found their fourth of the night and what looked to be the game-winner through Anna Weir in the 86th minute. Mitchell drove down the middle and played the ball out wide to Taylor Price, who one-timed her cross to Weir on the far side. Weir’s acrobatic finish put the Hokies up 4-3 with three-and-a-half minutes to play. NC State found the game-tying goal in the final 10 seconds in a last-ditch attempt with a low-driven ball to the back post, beating Hargrove.
