BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech fell 3-0 to Cal Saturday afternoon in its first ACC matchup of the season. The Hokies are now 8-4 (0-1). 

 The first set started with the Hokies quickly responding to Cal’s opening point, scoring two points to take an early lead. Tech marked two lead changes in the first set. Cal battled back to secure the set, 25-21. 

The Hokies continued to fight in the final two sets, including five lead changes in the third before grabbing the lead. However, the Bears took control and won the final two sets, 25-18 and 25-19. 

 Match Notes: 

  • Isabella Mishler recorded seven kills, one service ace, one dig and led the team in block solos with three. 
  • Payton Woods tallied five kills, one dig, and two block assists  
  • The team recorded seven lead changes  
  • Tech is now 8-4 on the season
